| Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, probably best known stateside for his collaborations with Peter Gabriel, was a Pakistani singer who almost singlehandedly popularized Qawwali music, an centuries old Sufi form of praising Allah. Born into a prominent family of qawals, Nusrat has become the most famous because of his passionate, idiosyncratic style that is the result of over seven centuries of teachings.
